Pakistan starts releasing stranded Afghan containers

KABUL has started allowing 20 Afghan traders’ containers laden with commercial goods to enter the landlocked country on a daily basis, the finance ministry said.

The clearance process of the 700 Afghanistan-bound containers carrying meat, chicken and eggs began on Tuesday, with almost 20 vehicles crossing Torkham border on a daily basis as reported by Afghan border officials, the ministry said in a statement.

The Afghan delegation had requested Pakistani counterparts to clear the stranded Afghan containers at the 8^th Joint Economic Commission meeting on January 17 in Islamabad. Pakistani officials had promised finding solution to the problem in 7-10 days.
