SHEBERGHAN (PAN insurgents were killed during a clash with security personnel in the northern province of Jawzjan, officials said on Monday.
The firefight erupted in the Chagana area of Darzab district on Sunday evening, the district chief, Asadullah Hashar, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The bodies of the Taliban, including their commander Mullah Zia, were handed over to their families.
Another 10 insurgents were wounded in the gunbattle, the official said, adding police suffered no casualties.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said they had attacked a security checkpoint in the district, injuring three local policemen including their commander, Hafiz.
A civilian was also killed and three wounded during the six hours clash, said a resident of the village, Mullah Abdul Haq.
