KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A bomb blast killed a public representative and injured his three friends as they visited a cemetery in the southern city of Kandahar, police said on Tuesday.
Malak Nanai was visiting his mother’s grave in the Shahidaano graveyard along with some friends to offer prayers for her soul on Monday evening when the mine planted in the grave exploded.
His mother died on the first day of Eidul Fitr, when a similar blast in a graveyard in the Ghanikhel district of eastern Nangarhar province killed 16 women and children.
Police spokesman Ghorzang Afridi said an investigation had been launched into the bomb attack. Security officials blamed the blast on the Taliban, but there has been no word from the insurgents so far about bomb attacks in graveyards.
Afghans visit graves of their relatives on special occasions like Eid to pay respects to their dead family members.
