JALALABAD/ASADABAD (PAN were detained in a police raid in Kunar, officials said on Friday.
Afghan Special Forces killed the five fighters loyal to Commander Mohib during an overnight operation in the Gularam area of Laghman, the governor’s office said.
A statement from the governor’s house said six villages in Shamkat area of Alishang district were cleared of insurgents by Afghan police and intelligence agents.
In Kunar, the fighters were detained in Sawakai district on their way from Chapa Dara to Sarkano town, the provincial police chief said.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkheli told reporters in Asadabad police seized three Kalashnikov assault rifles, a pistol, two walkie-talkies and other equipment from the rebels.
He said the detainees were being interrogated by police after they were disembarked from a car and taken into custody.
The detainees are Afghan citizens, accord to Syedkheli, who said the vehicle had also been impounded. The car reportedly carried four fighters along with weapons some days ago.
“Acting upon an intelligence tip, police conducted an operation in the district and captured the three armed rebels,” he said, adding the raid caused no casualties.
