PUL-I-KHUMRI/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A moneychanger was released from the clutches of kidnappers in northeastern Baghlan province while 165 kilograms of narcotics were seized in southwestern Nimroz province, officials said on Sunday.
Jawed Basharat, the Baghlan police spokesperson, said that the moneychanger had been kidnapped from Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, to Dushi district.
Police recovered the blindfolded captive from a house during an operation in the district, Basharat said, adding the kidnappers managed to flee. The man was to be taken to hospital due to his bad health condition.
According to another report, 165 kilograms of opium were seized in Zaranj, the Nimroz capital. 1st Lt. Fahim Mohammadi, the police spokesman, said the Iran-bound narcotics had been placed inside the tyres of a truck.
No one has been arrested in this connection, with police investigating the case, Mohammadi added. Two days back, 130 kilograms of drugs had been seized from a transit vehicle in Zaranj in an area near the Iran border.
