ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Five insurgents and one Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier were killed during an overnight clash in eastern Kunar province, police said on Thursday.
The clash in the Saw area of Narai district broke out late on Wednesday night, when a group of fighters attacked an ANA post, killing one service member and a Pakistani refugee.
Five attackers were killed and three others were wounded in the ensuing gun-battle, Kunar police chief Brig Gen Abdul Habib Syedkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Meanwhile, the governor said a seven-member militant group had reconciled with the government in the Manogai district.
Led by Sheikh Kamil Jan, the group had been active against the government over the past one decade, Shujaul Mulk Jalala said.
He said the group turned in their weapons, thanks to efforts by National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials.
Kamil Jan told Pajhwok they had been fighting against foreign forces and joined the peace process because foreign troops had withdrawn from Kunar and they saw no need to continue fighting.
