LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Inaugurating a newly-built school in the Greshk district, Governor Mohammad Naeem on Thursday said efforts were being made to construct buildings for schools having no structures in southern Helmand province.
The governor said the new school building cost nine million afghanis provided under the Support for Provincial Administration and Delivery (SPAD) programme and took one year to complete. The building has 10 classrooms and four administrative rooms.
Naeem said they were making efforts to resolve problems facing the education sector in Helmand and construct buildings for schools lacking them.
Meanwhile, education department deputy head Haji Nasir said of 38 schools in Greshk district, 23 were operational imparting education to 15,000 pupils, including 4,000 girls.
Helmand has 381 schools, but 247 of them are operational where 106,326 students, 49 percent of them females, are enrolled.
