TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Six Taliban militants and one policeman have been killed during separate clashes in central Uruzgan and eastern Nangarhar provinces, officials said on Thursday. Six policemen and one insurgent were injured during the clashes.
Police clashed with a group of insurgents during a security operation in the Khas Uruzgan district late on Wednesday night, the district chief, Nazar Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the clash that broke out in the Shali Nawi area left a local police member and four militants dead and one local policeman and one national policeman injured. A fourth Taliban fighter was also injured, but no civilian got hurt, he added.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said eight Afghan soldiers were killed and four fighters injured during the clash in Uruzgan, a claim rejected by local officials.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said two armed insurgents were killed in Nangarhar’s Sherzad district and a third planting roadside bombs was detained separately in Kandahar.
A MoD statement said some weapons and explosives had been confiscated during an operation against militants in southern Zabul province.
