KABUL (Pajhwok): Four people were killed and as many went missing in the wake of floods in northern Samangan province, officials said on Friday.
The rain-induced flooding hit parts of Doab, Khurram Wa Sarbagh districts, one official told Pajhwok Afghan News. The level of floods is said to be gradually receding.
Azizullah, the Doab district chief, said dozens of residential homes in several villages had been destroyed and crops on more than 10,000 acres of land washed away. Security forces have fished out the bodies of three people, including a woman. Four individuals have been missing.
Abdul Hafiz, the Khurram Wa Sarbagh district head, said a woman was killed and crops damaged by the overnight floods. Dozens of homes, agricultural water channels, orchards, flour mills and hydropower substations were harmed.
A hundred domestic animals also perished. Last week’s floods in the northern provinces are estimated to have caused huge financial losses and 165 fatalities.
