KABUL (Pajhwok): For the first time, the Indira Gandhi Hospital in the capital Kabul started last month treating patients with burn injuries, a doctor said on Thursday.
In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Dr. Habibur Rehman Qasim said: “I was sent to Switzerland by the Ministry of Public Health for five weeks to get advanced training in treating patients with burn injuries.”
During the last one-and-a-half-month, “we have successfully treated 10 patients with 40 percent burn injuries,” he added. The hospital, he said, direly needed advanced equipment to treat 90 percent patients locally.
Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital is located in Kabul. It also has an artificial limb centre, opened with the help of the Indian government.
Dr. Noor-ul-Haq Yousufzai, head of the hospital, said: “I have talked to several senior officials to equip the hospital with modern technology to better serve patients.”
