KABUL on Sunday proposed the incoming government to name the Kabul International Airport after him.
A number of upper house members made the demand on the new government of Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, who is due to take oath on Monday.
Senator Sadiqa Balkhi from northern Balkh province told the house that President Karzai as a national leader had done considerable works during his 13 years in office.
“I propose the Kabul International Airport should be named after President Hamid Karzai,” she said.
Her colleague from southeastern Khost province, Arifullah Pashtun and steer the nation out of dark.
Several others senators also echoed the idea of naming Kabul Airport after Karzai. Chairman Fazl Hadi Mulimyar said good and bad deeds were part of a human’s life, but President Karzai had many achievements for the country.
“The president worth honour, he is appreciable. Barred from contesting election for a third time, Karzai twice presented himself before the nation, which reposed confidence in him. And that he transferred power in a peaceful manner is indeed praise worthy.”
Muslimyar urged the new government to name the Kabul Airport after President Karzai, a call endorsed by 54 lawmakers by raising green cards.
