ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Acting Governor Shujaul Mulk Jalala on Thursday said the process to assist families displaced by the conflict in Dangam district of eastern Kunar province has been launched.
Launching the aid distribution campaign, Jalala said the displaced families were able to reach Asadabad, the provincial capital, after remained stuck in the conflict for several days. He put the number of the families at 100.
The families were on Thursday distributed food and non-food items, said Jalala, who added the government and some businessmen had promised assistance to the affected families.
A six-member committee of tribal elders has been constituted to oversee the aid distribution process.
Mohammad Alam, one of the displaced persons, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was able to rescue his family members before their house was set on fire by the Taliban.
He said the displaced families had no shelter or other facilities and the government should help them in this critical time.
The Dangam families were released on Thursday after an 11-day siege as a result of efforts by tribal elders.
