KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Up to 30 villages in the Imam Sahib district of northern Kunduz province have been cleared of insurgents, officials said on Monday.
District head Imamuddin Quraishi told Pajhwok Afghan News two insurgents were killed and six more wounded today. Two local police members also lost their lives.
He added security forces were conducting the operation in Kulbad area where the insurgents reportedly had a presence.
The clearing operation had been ongoing for the past five days, he said, adding militants had suffered heavy casualties.
Mullah commander, was killed along with his associates from Chechnya, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesperson, said the group was still active in Imam Sahib and denied rebel casualties.
