Scores of Taliban dead, injured in Musa Kala operation: Military

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 138 militants have been killed and wounded during fierce fighting in the Musa Kala district of southern Helmand province, the spokesman of the 215th Maiwand Military Corps said.  

Lt. Col. Mohammad Rasool Zazai told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan air force backed by foreign air forces conducted operations in different parts of Musa Kala district on Wednesday.

A gathering by Taliban Abdul Razziq, Mullah Nasir, Mullah Inqilabi and Mullah Rauf were among the fatalities, he added.

The anti-militants offensive, he said were continued on Thursday night.

Abdul Majid Akhund, Helmand provincial council member, confirmed attack on a militants’ gathering in the district but he had no exact figures into casualties.

However, Taliban have not yet commented on the Musa Kala fatalities as of yet. It merits mention that militants took control of the district center two days back.

Umar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, expressed optimism that Afghan forces were inching closer toward the district and would capture the district’s center soon.
