Muslimyar seeks clarification on “5th pillar”

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Meshrano Jirga chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar on Thursday said he sought clarification from security establishments regarding foreign spies and the “5th pillar” -- those within the government but want to weaken it.

Speaking to journalists following Eid-ul-Adhar prayers in the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, Muslimyar said the senate would soon summon National Security Advisor and director of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) to brief the lawmakers.

Abdul Rab Raoul Sayyaf, prominent Jihadi leader had claimed that terrorist attacks in Afghanistan. “If we can’t eliminate the enemy from under our noses, we can never defeat them on the battlefield.”

Muslimyar said: “We want security officials to provide answers over these allegations after Eid.”

Referring to the Taliban for killing innocent Afghans. He claimed other countries were involved in their support too, but Pakistan provided them havens.

“Either there should be direct talks with Pakistan over these issues or direct war,” said the senate chairman, adding that security officials would be asked to brief about overall security situation as well as recent insecurities in Nangarhar province.

Earlier, Muslimyar had said the government should take necessary steps for security in the eastern zone; otherwise local elders would start clearing operations against insurgents on their own.

“We don’t want to take up arms and build militias, we will support our security forces and stand by the government,” he clarified.
