KABUL in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province.
On Sunday, Pakistan’s Frontier Corps (FC) Inspector General (IG) Maj. Gen. Nadeem Anjum claimed 50 Afghan security personnel were killed and another 100 injured as Pakistani forces retaliated to unprovoked fire from Afghan forces.
But Ambassador Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, who is also President Ashraf Ghani’s special envoy, rubbished the Pakistani claim and said only two Afghan security personnel were killed and seven others injured.
“Truth is that only two Afghan soldiers were martyred and seven injured,” the envoy wrote on his social media account, deploring Pakistan’s move to celebrate the unfortunate incident.
“The Chaman clash left casualties on the Pakistan side too. But we instead of celebrating it called it unfortunate and regrettable,” he wrote. He told Pakistan the loss of two Afghan soldiers was too many as the two countries seek to forge good relations.
