JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A district police chief has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.
Attuallah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Khewa district police head Lt. Col. Matiullah Khan was gunned down in Badiala area.
He said Khan came under attack while attending a soldier’s funeral on Wednesday. The police officer succumbed to his wounds at hospital.
One civilian was also killed and four others were injured in the attack, Khogyani said, adding the wounded were evacuated to hospital. One of the injured is said to be in critical condition.
Rahmatullah, 60, one of the injured, said the gunmen stormed the funeral ceremony from four directions. He had no information about the exact number of casualties.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.
