PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): UNHCR has procured high-tech machines worth Rs710 million ($6.2million) for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital here to support free treatment for needy patients, including Afghan refugees.
The UN agency said it would provide radiotherapy machines, software and training for technicians to operate the equipment. Radiotherapy uses high-energy radiation to break down cancer cells and treat tumours. The machines will be installed in the newly-built hospital by mid-summer.
