CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): An operation for arresting irresponsible gunmen and criminals has been launched in central Parwan province, an official said Tuesday.
According to local officials, 26 people have been killed and 74 others wounded as a result of criminal incidents in Parwan over the past three months.
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Mahfooz Walizada, Parwan police chief, told reporters on Tuesday that the operation was launched from Jabal Saraj district today and would be extended to all areas.
The operation was aimed at arresting murderers, kidnappers, highwaymen and other criminals and illegal armed men, he said.
Walizada said the operation involved personnel from the Afghan National Army (ANA), police and intelligence forces.
He asked Afghan security forces to be serious in their action against strongmen and illegal armed groups and never show any flexibility.
“Police will lose their trust among people if harassments and cruelties continue by illegal armed groups, but I am sure people will support police in this move,” he said.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) recently said it has captured Nizamuddin Qaisari, commander of illegal armed group in Faryab, Mohammad Daud Mubariz who sold weapons and security posts to Taliban in Farah province, Rahimullah, an illegal commander in Uruzgan province and Nader Shah, a smuggler of precious stones and drugs in Badakhshan.
