Zarif meets Baradar, backs intra-Afghan talks

<p><a href="/en/afganistan/kabul" class="glossify-link">KABUL</a> Abdul Ghani Baradar has met Iranian Foreign Minister Javed Zarif in Tehran.</p>

<p>Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Mullah Baradar discussed issues of Afghan refugees based in Iran and Zarif promised to resolve their problems.</p>

<p>Zarif voiced Iran’s readiness to help promote intra-Afghan talks aimed at restoring peace and stability to the war-devastated country, Iranian media outlets reported.</p>

<p>According to Mehr News Agency, the top Iranian diplomat underlined the need for the resumption of the Afghan talks and formation of an all-inclusive government.</p>

<p>Zarif added Iran was also willing to expand economic and cultural cooperation with the Afghan government and people on the basis of common interests.</p>

<p>Iran supported efforts by various Afghan forces to find a common ground for cooperation on paving the way for the departure of foreign forces from <a href="/en/afghanistan" class="glossify-link">Afghanistan</a> and addressing the country’s security issues.</p>

<p>The Taliban visit to Tehran was the second of its kind after the collapse of talks with the US. The group’s representatives have also visited China and Russia for talks on the peace process.</p>
