Taliban chief for Chamtal district killed in airstrike

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Taliban Ahmad Shah was killed along with two others in an airstrike on Friday morning.

Shah aka Mullah Jabir was killed in Nawkhar village of the district, said the district administrative head, Haji Rahmatullah.

Allah Mohammad, a resident of Nawkhar village, said Ahmad Shah and his friends were emplacing landmines to target security forces’ convoys when they were hit from the air.

Local residents said announcements for funeral payers of the slain Taliban leader were made on load-speakers in mosques of the district.

The Shaheen Military Corps confirmed the killing of Ahmad Shah and said he was killed along with six others.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.

Security forces have been conducting clearing operations in various districts of Balkh including Chamtal for the past two weeks.
