Atmar asked to follow Afghans’ killing in Iran

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Monday asked the acting Foreign Minister to seriously follow the burning of a vehicle carrying Afghan citizens in the Iranian city of Yazd through diplomatic channels.

Three Afghans were killed and eight others injured three days ago when their vehicle was set on fire in Yazd province.

In a video message, Afghan Ambassador to Iran Abdul Ghafoor Liwal said he had visited Yazd province on Friday.

Sediq Seidqi, spokesman for the Presidential Palace, tweeted that President Ghani issued the directives during a Cabinet meeting and asked Hanif Atmar to follow the issue seriously based on diplomatic behavior.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials also acknowledged their forces opened firing at a vehicle with Afghans onboard, leaving three people dead and some injured.

In late May, Iranian border guards had allegedly tortured and forced dozens of Afghan migrants into Harirud River.
