When President Ashraf Ghani was addressing the Consultative Loya Jirga (CLJ) on Friday, Belqes Roshan, a lawmaker from Farah province, raised a placard with words “Offering extortion to savage Taliban is a national treason.”
The president responded to Roshan by saying that he was not being blackmailed by the Taliban and the jirga will decide regarding the release of the Taliban prisoners.
But Roshan continued her protest when Shakaba first pushed her and then smashed her to the ground.
Abdullah Abdullah, head of the CLJ, told reporters that Shakaba went to the Wolesi Jirga and apologized to Roshan for what she did.
Asadullah Shahab, secretary of the CLJ, said that Shakaba was a volunteer organizer of the Jirga.
When asked if Shakaba worked for the Peace Minister, he replied: “I have had heard this but it is not confirmed. I can just say Shakaba was hired for four days for the CLJ.”
He termed Shakaba’s action against democratic principles and added the administrative panel of the CLJ will take a decision on Shakaba’s action after hearing Belqes Roshan’s views.
