Ghani to Taliban: Declare truce, enter peace talks

<p><a href="/en/afganistan/kabul" class="glossify-link">KABUL</a> (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani said on Thursday all impediments to long-awaited intra-Afghan peace negotiations had been removed.</p>

<p>In a televised message to the security forces, the president asked the <a href="/en/taliban" class="glossify-link">Taliban</a> insurgents to renounce violence and become part of the peace process.</p>

<p>“Durable peace with dignity will come about. We have created the right conditions for peace with dignity,” Ghani remarked in his message.</p>

<p>His government had demonstrated its commitment to peace by releasing Taliban prisoners in line with the <a href="/en/loya-jirga" class="glossify-link">Loya Jirga</a>’s recommendation, he said.</p>

<p>Ghani urged the militant movement to walk the talk and declare a ceasefire and enter peace parleys with his administration at the earliest possible.</p>

<p>The president continued the government desired peace to enable the people of <a href="/en/afghanistan" class="glossify-link">Afghanistan</a> to live together in an atmosphere security.</p>
