First time alivera cultivation brings smile to Nangarharis

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Canal Department officials in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday said alivera plants cultivated on 30 acres of land produced yield in two months.

They said the plant being harvested was cultivated in the province for the first time in Nangarhar.

Syed Haumayon Gharibmal, spokesperson for the Canal Department, said they planned cultivation of alivera plant on 50 acres of land and the plant, grown on 30 acres, would be soon harvested.

He said the Canal Department would earn 300,000 afghanis from the harvest on every half an acre of land. He said around 50 people found work in cultivation and growing of alivera plant.

Samiullah, a worker in the alivera field, said the plant easily grew but needed professional way to take care of.  He said Alivera was a profitable palnt.

According to experts, alivera plant is used for around 1,500 purposes including production of drinks, make-up creams, women beatification, medicines and several other things.

The plant was first introduced in Herat province where it is known as green gold plant. Alivera plant was recenyl transferred to Nangarhar where it gave positive result.
