DOHA (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has said people and even Taliban militants are tired of war -- a situation that should be realised by all.
Ghani made the remarks during a meeting with Afghan’s negotiating team members in Doha, the capital of Qatar, where Afghan peace parley began on Sept. 12.
“The government and the whole Afghan nation are proud of their negotiators because you have proved that confidence in you is a principled decision.”
He commended members of the government’s peace-negotiating team for demonstrating the required level of patience and tolerance.
“We thank you for reflecting your perspective and policy in line with Afghanistan on peace,” he added.
Ghani told the delegation the world had consensus on peace and development in Afghanistan and his government was working to attract national and international investment.
His administration’s efforts had prompted an Australian billionaire to sign various MoUs with the government on investment in Afghanistan, the president claimed.
First Vice-President Amrullah Saleh also told the team the Afghan flag was flying in streets of Doha today and it sent a message to the other side that the existing democratic system could embrace and integrate them.
“Understanding the nature of dialogue, dealing with the media and addressing issues in a systematic manner has given you a high moral status and we will continue our efforts to strengthen this position,” he remarked.
