KABUL (Pajhwok): The security forces have regained control of the Maymai district of northeastern Badakhshan province as a result of an operation against the Taliban, the government claimed on Sunday.
Last week, the militants overran the district and inflicted casualties on several security personnel, including the police chief for Maymai.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said the Taliban had suffered heavy causalities. A huge quantity of weapons and ammunitions belonging to the rebels was destroyed or seized during the operations.
It said reinforcements had been sent to the district and they would not allow the insurgents to harass the district people.
