KABUL (Pajhwok): India has committed investment in 150 projects worth $80 million in Afghanistan, a media report says.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar made the announcement while addressing the Geneva Conference on Afghanistan on Wednesday.

New Delhi has signed an agreement with Kabul on constructing the Shahtoot dam on Kabul River and will soon begin work on phase 4 of high-impact community development projects.

The Shahtoot damn, in particular, would provide safe drinking water to more than two million residents of Kabul, the minister said in a statement.

Jaishankar also called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the region to ensure peace and stability.

Concerned at rising violence in Afghanistan, he stressed the peace process must be Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled.

Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s desire to work with the people of Afghanistan and the global fraternity for a peaceful, prosperous, sovereign and united Afghanistan.
