KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): A number of ghost workers have been recruited in the Covid-19 hospital in northern Kunduz province and some posts advertised against the law, a claim rejected by the provincial Public Health Department.

Kunduz Covid-19 hospital administrative head Nasim Hussainzada told Pajhwok Afghan News that some posts at the facility had been advertised illegally in order to hire new persons and replace them.

“The organization funding the hospital is doing this because we deny their illegal demands and now they want to replace us,” he said.

He said a number of ghost workers and ghost vehicles had been hired for the hospital. “These workers and vehicles do not exist but their wages are claimed. We also don’t have enough oxygen,” Hussainzada said, claiming that there were only 25 beds in the virus hospital but charges of 50 beds were claimed.

Dr. Khesro Ibrahimkhel, chief doctor at the hospital, said the current hospital personnel served the people under tough circumstances so far, but their posts had been given for advertisement.

“We have been illegally prevented from work and our posts are advertised, we have worked here in difficult conditions.”

A male nurse in the hospital, Tariq Ibrahimkhel, said advertising their posts was a great injustice with them, asking the relevant authorities to seriously investigate the matter.

However, Kunduz public health director Ihsanullah Fazli strongly rejected these claims and said contracts of the above mentioned personnel had expired and they were making baseless allegations.

“There is no corruption, ghost workers or vehicles in the Covid-19 hospital. The contracts of these people have ended and now they want to create tension in order to stay on their posts.”

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in Afghanistan, 814 people contracted the virus in Kunduz province and of them 29 died and 440 recovered.
