Coronavirus claims up to 5 lives daily in Herat

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Health officials in western Herat province on Thursday warned against surge in the number of positive coronavirus cases and deaths.

Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, spokesperson for the Public Health Department, said if residents continued to ignore precautionary health measures, the local health sector will not be able to manage the growing number of patients.

He said four to five coronavirus patients daily lost their lives, adding that since the beginning of on-going solar month over 40 new patients had been hospitalised in the Shaheed Basim Hospital.

Sherzai said currently 96 coronavirus patients were hospitalised in which the health condition of 41 is critical.

“Our people still ignore coronavirus and did not show compliance with health measures,” he said.

According to Sharzai, keeping in mind the growing number of coronavirus patients the Shaheed Razi Hospital had been made functional and five patients hospitalised there.

According to the health department, 28 new coronavirus cases registered in Herat in the past 24 hours, taking the provincial tally to 7,766 in which 6,896 have recovered.
