KABUL (Pajhwok): The global tally of positive Covid-19 cases has reached 68 million, with the United States alone recording 15 million cases.

The virus, which surfaced about a year back in China’s Wuhan province, rapidly spread to around 210 countries in the world. The virus has been controlled in some countries but its second wave is hitting some others.

According to the US John Hopkins University, the number of people infected with Covid-19 has reached 68 million worldwide as of today afternoon.

The university says that more than 47 million of those infected have so far recovered while around 1.55 million lost their lives to the disease.

Over 300,000 people contract Covid-19 on a daily basis while around 7,000 of the infected lose their lives during the period, the source said.

According to reports, 15 million people are infected with the virus in the US, 9.7 million in India and over 6.62 million in Brazil.

Russia, Colombia, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Argentina, Chili, Britain, Italy, Germany, Iran, Turkey and Peru are other countries with high rate of the virus cases and deaths caused by it.

In Afghanistan, over 48,000 people have so far infected, 1,907 died and up to 38,000 others recovered from the virus.
