KABUL (Pajhwok): Pashayi tribal leaders and lawmakers during a gathering in eastern Nangarhar province on Saturday called the intra-Afghan peace talks as ‘a drama’ as violence was on the increase in the country.
They questioned the role of Pakistan in the intra-Afghan talks and claimed that the Taliban had increased their attacks in order to receive more privileges in a future government.
Gathering at lawmaker Hazrat Ali’s home in Jalalabad city, the Pashayi elders demanded the government and the Taliban put the killing of Afghans to an end.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his good intentions for Afghan peace but Pakistan has not taken any practical step for the success of peace talks as yet”: Hazrat Ali said
He questioned the presence of Lashkar-e-Taiba in various areas of Nangarhar province and also said the Taliban were receiving an increased aid because of peace talks.
Tribal leader Malik Ataullah expressed his concern about insecurity and said, insecurity in one district had a direct impact on other districts.
Another tribal leader Gul Baik said if the Taliban truly wanted peace in Afghanistan, then they would have reduced violence and declared ceasefire.
Intra-Afghan peace talks officially began around three months ago in Doha, Qatar and the inauguration ceremony was joined by foreign ministers of multiple countries including US secretary of state Mike Pompeo.
