KABUL (Pajhwok): Covid-19 infections have crossed the 72 million mark, with 50 million people having recovered from the pandemic, news reports say.
The coronavirus was first reported in the Wuhan city of China. Later on, the disease spread to 210 countries and regions.
Most countries have been able to control the pandemic spread. But the second wave has hit many countries.
US-based Johns Hopkins University reported on Monday there were 72 million infected individuals worldwide.
It added the virus had claimed over 1.6 million lives across the globe. Over 300,000 individuals are infected and around 7,000 killed daily.
Statistics indicate there are 16.7 million infections in the US, 9.88 million in India and 6.9 million in Brazil.
The virus has claimed 306,000 lives in the United States, 143,000 in India and 181,000 in Brazil.
Russia, Columbia, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Argentina, Britain, Italy, Germany, Iran, Turkey and Peru have high coronavirus infections and fatality rates.
Afghanistan has so far reported more than 49000 positive coronavirus cases, 1,972 deaths and 38,000 recoveries.
