Peace vital to address severe situation in Afghanistan, says WFP director

KABUL (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar on Tuesday met Representative and Country Director at World Food Program (WFP) Mary-Ellen McGroarty and discussed matters related to food security and peace process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement.

The Two sides had a wide-ranging discussion on WFP programs for Afghanistan and further cooperation between the Afghan government and WFP.

WFP’s Representative and Country Director briefed the foreign minister on programs and strategies that WFP pursues to address food crises and support food assistance.

Ms. Mary-Ellen McGroarty touched on the importance of ceasefire and peace to address the severe situation in Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Atmar expressed his appreciation for the WPF’s works in Afghanistan and asked WFP to further coordinate with the Afghan government to address the food deficit in Afghanistan.
