KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 57 new positive COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths from the infection have been recorded across the country in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health said on Thursday.
The ministry said 1,802 people underwent tests during the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 57 people, pushing the overall tally to 53,831.
Of the fresh cases, 12 were recorded in Herat, seven in Faryab, six each in Kabul and Nangarhar, five in Khost, four each in Baghlan and Laghman, three in Kandahar, two each in Paktia, Parwan, Badakhshan and one each in Kunduz, MaidanWardak, Logar and Urozgan provinces.
At least 295 individuals recovered from the pandemic during the past 24 hours, taking the recoveries to 45,105.
The ministry said 14 people lost their lives to the virus during the period and the total deaths reached 2,324.
Initially emerged in Wuhan province of China, the virus then spread throughout the world. The US and Britain have been reporting a large number of infections on a daily basis.
Lately some countries closed again their borders and suspended all types of travel in order to prevent the spread of the virus despite producing and rolling out vaccines by many countries.
The MoPH has urged people to reduce travelling overseas and self-quarantine in case of any visible symptoms.
