KABUL (Pajhwok): Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has been asked to continue as America’s special representative for the Afghanistan peace process, says the US secretary of state.

Antony Blinken told journalists on Wednesday: “Yes, we have asked him to continue the vital work” that he was assigned by the Trump administration.

“And, with regard to Khalilzad, we’ve asked him to continue the vital work that he’s performing,” Blinken remarked.

The new US government had also started reviewing the US peace pact with the Taliban, the top American diplomat was quoted as saying by an Indian media outlet.

According to the Press Trust of India, he told a questioner the Biden administration needed to understand the commitments made by the two sides in the deal signed last year.
