GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A new positive polio case has been detected in the Andar district of southern Ghazni province, an official said Saturday.
Mir Jan Rasikh, spokesman for the polio section at the Public Health Department of Ghazni, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had been unable to implement anti-polio vaccination drive in Andar district for the past two years.
“We had sent three teams of vaccinators to Andar district, but unfortunately a new positive polio case surfaced there,” he added.
Rasikh warned more cases would surface if the Taliban militants did not allow polio workers to implement the home-to-home drive.
Dr.Fazal Ahmad, in charge of polio section in Ghazni, told Pajhwok the polio virus was detected in an 18-month-old child named Massoud Ahmad in Talibi village of the district.
“The child had received polio drops three times but he could not be given the drops for a fourth time,” he explained.
