MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen shot dead a police officer in northern Balkh province, where two civilians were killed including a woman in an airstrike by Afghan forces yesterday.

Provincial police headquarters said that Mohammad Amin Saboor, education head at the police headquarters of Marmal district, was killed in a gun attack on Wednesday evening.

Police spokesman Adel Shah Adel told Pajhwok Afghan News that Saboor was killed and his 12-year-old son was wounded by two unknown motorcyclists.

He said the attackers managed to flee the area but police had launched investigation.

According to another report, two civilians, including a woman, were killed in AAF airstrike in Hassankhel village on Wednesday evening.

Matiullah, a resident of the area, confirmed the airstrike and the killing of a woman and a man in the blitz. He said about 30 houses were damaged as a result of the airstrike.

Security officials had said nothing in this regard.
