KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The governor of southern Kandahar says the approval process for 3,800 teacher posts should be accelerated to address the issue of teachers’ shortage.
Roohullah Khanzada made the remarks during a meeting with Education Minister Rangina Hamidi here late on Saturday.
Hamidi visited Kandahar and met a number of officials, including Governor Khanzada. Her trip comes two days after the president approved 3,800 teacher posts for the province.
Hamidi said she was evaluating the education process in the country in line with special presidential directives. Her visit to Kandahar was part of the evaluation process.
During her visit, she would take a closer look at the shortage of trained teachers, salaries of contractual workers, lack of school buildings, textbooks and other issues.
Mohib Ahmad Roshan, director of education, said the education process in the province was worrying because no work had been done to improve its infrastructure in recent years.
He added war, economic crisis, and illiteracy in Afghan society were holding of the education process hostage.
According to him, there have been great opportunities in the last 18 years, but no work was done to improve the education process and the infrastructure.
