PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): At least eight Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed and 15 others captured by the Taliban during a clash in northern Baghlan province.

A government official in Baghlan-i-Markazi district, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News that militants stormed a military base in Jarkhushk area on Monday night.

He said eight ANA soldiers were killed and 15 others captured by the militants. At least three soldiers have been missing.

Abdul Mohammad, a resident of the area, said the ANA base in Abu Mohammad High School had been captured by the Taliban.

He added a number of soldiers were killed and some others captured by the Taliban. “At least eight army tanks were destroyed. Some weapons and ammunition were also taken away by the Taliban.”

Security officials confirmed the incident but refused to provide details. The Taliban also verified the overnight assault.

The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said 10 security personnel were killed and 16 others captured alive.

He said the insurgents had also destroyed seven ANA tanks. The fighters took away two tanks and weapons and ammunition, he added.
