KABUL (Pajhwok): India has become the third nation in the world to record more than 300,000 covid-19 deaths, says a media report.

India reported on Sunday 240,842 new positive cases of the coronavirus. taking the total tally to 26,530,132, the Business Standard said.

For the seventh consecutive day, the Union Health Ministry in Delhi said, coronavirus cases in the country remained below the 300,000-mark.

The worst-affected states are Maharashtra (5,527,092), Karnataka (2,367,742), Kerala (2,293,632), Tamil Nadu (1,770,988), Uttar Pradesh (1,659,265), and Andhra Pradesh (1,542,079).

Globally, more than 167 million people have been infected with the deadly disease. About 147,944,323 have recovered from the pandemic, which has left 3,468,045 dead.

The United States is the worst-hit country, followed by India, Brazil, France and Turkey. India has recorded one hundred thousand deaths from the virus in the past 26 days.
