KABUL (Pajhwok): Following a storm of protests by residents, the government has reversed its decision and appointed a new acting governor for northern Faryab province.
Several days ago, President Ashraf Ghani appointed Mohammad Dawood Laghmani as new governor for Faryab in line with a proposal from the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).
But the decision drew strong opposition Faryab residents and supporters of Junbish-i-Milli party. Angry protestors closed the gate to the governor’s house.
Subsequently, the government introduced Laghmani at an Afghan National Army (ANA) base in the province.
