KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (ATRA) has regretted video released by Kabul Municipality without consideration of researches and studies for international health conventions, in particular academic studies in regard to electro-magnetic waves.

Earlier, Kabul Municipality released a video clip on their website where it is claimed that telecom antennas existence causes gradual death in residential areas and it is thus required to remove the antennas from those areas.

ATRA spontaneously expressed its serious objection and concern in respect with release of such baseless information and asked the municipality leadership to delete the clip and investigate the one had released the video, but it seems they have not done so.

ATRA’s official position is that Kabul Municipality video statements are absolutely irresponsible and does not attach any importance from technical point of view; the statements not only obsess the public’s mind but also result in serious threats against telecom infrastructures.

The aware parties across the globe believe that regulated antennas and telecom waves are standard and cause no health harm and this is not acknlowdged by the country Ministry of Health too.

Kabul Municipality is neither responsible for the public’s health and nor has expertise in telecom field and therefore the statements are beyond their responsibilites creating serious problems for telecom sector where 3 billion has been almost invested.

Mr. Omar Mansoor Ansari, ATRA Acting-Chairman, said “He is really amazed such baseless message is released by an accredited governmental entity; he further requests the municipality aware and motivated leadership to remove the message has caused stress for the public from their channels and take action for compensating this mistake”.

ATRA, within its obligations, is ready to cooperate the country municipalities so that these organizations carry out their tasks properly.
