HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The provincial council of western Badghis province says the Taliban have taken full control of the Badghis-Herat highway after overrunning security check-posts over the past 10 days.
Abdul Aziz Bek, chairman of the council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban had been active in some areas on the highway for the past eight months.
But in the past 10 days, after the fall of three security checkpoints and two army and police bases, the insurgents have gained complete control of the key road, he said.
