ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Ghulam Akbar, a resident of Watapor district of eastern Kunar province who lost three of his sons in Afghan security forces, says he is ready to sacrifice his life for peace in the country.

The 65 years old man, who sustained wounds during a fight against the Soviet Union forces, is a resident of Korbagh area of Watapor district, but he has shifted his home to Asadabad city, the provincial capital, due to security threats.

In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, he said that he lost three of his sons, one in Nuristan, the second in Balkh and the third in Kandahar province in defense of the country.

He said that his fourth son who was serving as a soldier in Maroof district of Kandahar, was missing since last one and a half years.

Ghulam Akbar added that all his hopes were linked to his missing son, but he was unable to find him despite visiting Kandahar several times.

He is proud for his sons for sacrificing their lives for the defense of their country, saying he was also ready to offer his life for the protection of Afghanistan.

In deep sorrow for loss of his sons, the man said, “If peace comes at the cost of my head, I am ready for it, for my country so other Afghans and generations live in peace.”

He said that the current peace talks should be accelerated and the bloodshed of Afghans stopped as soon as possible.

“Peace talks need to produce a result soon, both sides need to show flexibility and stop widowing Afghan women and do not orphan children like my grandchildren, I ask them to stop war and show mercy on the oppressed Afghans,” he said.

He said that the government had so far provided him an apartment in Kabul and some cash money, to which he was thankful.

“If there had been no needless war in this country, my grandchildren would not have orphaned and they would not have been in this bad situation, they would get education, and we would not have been suffering from sad moments,” he said.

He asked the government to provide his grandchildren with education facilities and livelihood needs so they could get education and defend their country in the future like their fathers did.

Ghulam Akbar who also suffers from economic problems said that besides his sons’ widows, he was also taking care of the orphaned children.

He said he was yet to get ownership documents of his apartment in Kabul, asking the Ministry of Defense to assist him in this regard.

Akbar is currently the car taker of 14 family members.
