MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Taliban militants have captured a police training center in Sayedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province, locals and the Taliban said.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that the group captured a ‘major base and Police Academy’ in Dasht-i-Tup area of Sayedabad district.
A resident of Dasht-i-Tup area who wished to go unnamed told Pajhwok Afghan News that the training center came under clash on Saturday when both sides suffered casualties.
He said that the base was fallen to the Taliban and Afghan forces retreated to Logar province. Two Taliban fighters were killed and a number of others wounded, he added, saying that security forces also suffered casualties but he had no exact figures.
Some families in the area moved to other locations due to clashes but they returned after the battle ended, the source said.
Mustafa Mayar, Maidan Wardak police chief also told media that Afghan forces retreated from the center.
