KABUL (Pajhwok): In pursuit of a peace agreement, the US special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation has returned to the region.
Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad tweeted on Saturday he was in Doha “to continue our determined diplomacy in pursuit of a peace agreement between the Islamic Republic and the Taliban”.
A negotiated settlement was the only solution to end the long-term war in Afghanistan, the veteran American diplomat wrote.
Khalilzad said America’s military engagement in Afghanistan was coming to an end. “Our commitment to Afghanistan is not,” he added.
The envoy promised: “We will work vigorously with all Afghan parties . . .
