KABUL (Pajhwok): As evacuation flights enter the final stage, Turkey says it is not in a position to take the burden of a new wave of migrants from Afghanistan.
“It is out of the question for us to take an additional refugee burden,” Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday.
At a joint news conference with his German counterpart, he claimed Turkey had discharged its moral and humanitarian responsibilities in terms of migration
Europe and regional countries would also be affected if migration from Afghanistan turned into a crisis, he was quoted as warning by Al-Jazeera.
Host to about 300,000 Afghan migrants, Turkey has been trying to beef up its eastern border to stem a new wave of migrants from Afghanistan.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas commended Turkey’s offer to help run Kabul airport after NATO’s departure. Germany was willing to support that financially and technically, he said.
