KABUL (Pajhwok): Interior Ministry officials say journalists should take part in the country’s rebuilding by investigating facts and should not cover anything that could ruin the country.

Maulvi Abdul Hakim Hamdi, head of strategic relations at MoI, made the remarks at the reopening ceremony of the police radio in Kabul. He said the media had responsibility to broadcast in accordance with Islamic law.

Hamdi called on reporters to investigate and publish facts so that the voice of affected Afghanis could reach the world.

Maulvi Mohammad Mohsin, deputy minister of interior, said: “Don’t go beyond the truth, tell the truth to people and inform the world about the overall situation in your country.”

He said Afghanistan’s new government was committed to freedom of expression and would not allow anyone to obstruct it.

Qari Saeed Khosti, a spokesman for the MoI, said the media had an observer role in a country and should monitor the system’s performance.

According to him, the media has a responsibility to protect the country’s highest national interests and strengthen relationship between the people and the government.

Hafizullah Barakzai, head of the Journalists Council, said the government and the media should work together for reconstruction, development and prosperity of the country in this sensitive situation.

He asked the new government to announce its policy to the media, ensure access to information and reactivate media compliant commission.
