PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Peace in Afghanistan is in the interest of the entire world, Pakistan says, pledging continued efforts for stabilising the neighbour.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi warned on Friday the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan could adversely affect countries in the region and beyond.
Speaking to journalists in Islamabad ahead of a meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, he said Pakistan was helping the war-hit country on humanitarian grounds.
Asking the global fraternity to help improve the situation, he said Pakistan was doing all it could to ensure peace in Afghanistan.
A day earlier, the foreign minister hoped the OIC meeting would prove to be a stepping stone in finding solutions to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
By hosting the event, he said, Pakistan was playing a positive role in bringing together members of the international community and the Taliban
A Taliban delegation, led by the interim foreign minister, will participate in the meeting, which will also be attended by special representatives from the United States, Russia and China.
Qureshi said representatives of P5 countries, Germany, Canada, Australia and Japan had also been invited to the gathering.
Pakistan wanted the Taliban to heed concerns of the international community regarding human rights and girls’ education.
He urged the world to realise that chaos in the wake of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan would strengthen terrorist organisations.
